Iowa is trying. . .

So today the Iowa supreme court upheld a judge's decision to lift the ban on same sex marriages saying it was "unconstitutional to the lesbian and gay community" to have this ban in place.

I applaud this but who knows, it could be a plot to make up for producing the likes of:
-Tom Arnold
-Ashton Kutcher
-Willie Beamon (wow)

Chicago Gets Cutler and Celebrates

Chicago aquired Jay Cutler. Time to get mopey and celebrate:

ESPN

Little Kids Aren't Always Fun Vacuums

Being the eldest of 4 with two siblings under 11 I happen to not hate kids. I do know that there are some people (read: selfish) who absolutely can not stand kids. I don't know if this is from years of verbal reminders of their hopes and dreams being crushed or what but it's not my problem. Being around kids so much has made me think that kids doing "adult activities" is always a good way to make me laugh. I do NOT mean in the way of dressing kids up in funny outfits like people do with their cats. I mean along the lines of being a young kid and teaching your younger sibling to swear, so I've heard not done.

Anyways just watch:

Plenty more Little O'Reilly on the wurled wied webb.

This Might be Better Than Old School. . . .

I can not wait to see The Hangover. It's directed by Todd Phillips (Old School) and it stars Ed Helms (The Office's Andy Bernard), Bradley Cooper (Zach or Sack from Wedding Crashers), Zach Galifinakis (Out Cold or FOD), and Justin Bartha (National Treasure). Appearances by Jeffrey Tambor (Arrested Development), Ken Jeong (Role Models), and Mike Tyson look to help as well.

Enjoy:

I Got a Second Job For Summer-Drinking

So summer is right around the corner and not that I needed an excuse but it is prime outdoor drinking time. Metromix decided to release a fine little item that has definitely taken up a lot of my day. Keep in mind I believe this is Metromix's "rough draft" and not every fest is on here.

Chicago Street Fest Guide 2009(well the ones I'm going to)

May 2009
15th-17th: Mayfest (Lincoln and Barry)
Lincoln and Barry. Hairbangers ball, 16 Candles, and Mike & Joe are just some of the bands. And theirs a pet parade.....which is only cool if you have a pet tiger or something. (No monkeys please)

22nd-25th: Gaelic Park Irish Fest (Gaelic Park-Oak Forest)
I know this isn't quite "Chicago" but deal with it. According to Metromix there is not much going on other than:

23rd-24th: Randolph Street Market Festival
Ends at like 4pm or 5pm so it's not really a big festival (in my opinion). They do serve beer though so that is always a plus.

28th-31st: Mayfest Part Deux (Lincoln Square)
This is the "more legit" Mayfest but let's be serious, drinking beer outdoors doesn't take authenticity it takes dedication and a degree of stupidity at times. There's also Maypole dancing and that does NOT involve strippers.

30th-31st: Belmont/Sheffield Music Fest
Standard beer and music. Oh and arts and crafts if you can resist spending all that money on beer.

June 2009
5th-7th: The Raven: Experience the Magic of Ravenswood(4701 N Ashland)
Don't get excited there Michael Scott, it's not a magic fest. Well except for how beer and wine will magically make you think you can dance, sing, and attract the opposite sex all at once.

12th-14th: Ribfest (Lincoln and Irving Park)
Not quite as big as the suburban one (from what I hear) but that's what makes it enjoyable. Ribs aplenty, music, booze of course, and you can eat alligator. No joke there, you really can.

19th-21st: Taste of Randolph (900 W. Randolph)
Six blocks long with restaurants participating along the strip. Plus anything in Chicago that is a "Taste of ....." without Chicago in it is a winner in my book.

20th-21st: BAM! Belmont Arts and Music Fest (Belmont and Damen)
I feel like BAM! means surprise like getting punched in the face when walking in. Hopefully not.

**Taste of Chicago goes from June 26th-July 5th**
**Pride Festivities are the weekend of June 27th**

July 2009

10th-11th: Jeff Park Fest (Jefferson Park)
I usually go to this every year since it is only a couple of blocks away but I get the same results: People I haven't seen in years, music, and beer. Each can be good and bad well except for the beer part. Last year Foghat played and I could care less.

10th-12th: Irish American Heritage Festival (Irish American Heritage Center)
Who better to drink with than Irish people (hot women aside)?

11th-12th: Rock Around The Block (Belmont and Lincoln)
More than 30 bands and the recurring theme of booze. Do it.

17th-18th: St. Pat's World's Largest Block Party (Madison and Des Plaines)
Title explains it all. Tickets are $35 but that includes 5 drink tickets. Reports about this being also one of the largest singles events always circulate. I'm still surprised to this day that an Irish Catholic church doesn't just let the party spill inside as well.

25th-26th: Taste of Lincoln Ave (Lincoln from Fullerton to Wrightwood)
If you can stomach the DePaul crowd this fest covers six city blocks and has Hairbanger's Ball and Mike & Joe and more than 350 beer, food, and art vendors.

**Wicker Park fest is also the weekend of the 25th but I'll be skipping that**

August 2009

1st-2nd: Retro on Roscoe (Roscoe from Damen to Oakley)
Includes the Windy City Chili Cook-Off, 3 stages of music, and a family area- if well, you know, you have a family.

**North Halsted Market Days are from the 1st-2nd**
**Lollapalooza is from the 7th-9th**

8th-9th: Wrigleyville Summerfest (Seminary Ave from Roscoe to School)
You're in Wrigleyville and allowed to drink on the street. This might be the worst planning I've heard of especially with the description saying "Family activities and a kid zone."

14th-16th: North Side Summerfest (Lincoln and Belle Plaine)
Beer and food, pull my leg harder.

**Air & Water Show are on the 15th & 16th**

22nd-23rd: Lake View Music Fest (Addison and Sheffield)
You're outside in Wrigleyville again. Make bad decisions.

29th-30th: Taste of Greece (Halsted from Van Buren to Monroe)
Good time and a change of pace. Plus Greek-American women are generally hot.

September 2009

**Jazz Fest runs from 4th-6th**

4th-7th: Taste of Polonia (Copernicus Center/Lawrence and Milwaukee)
Another fest that is close to home for me. Chicago sports the largest Polish population outside of Poland and Polish, Irish, or German always equals one thing-liquor. Good time and Polish women (under 40ish) are usually hot.

11th-13th: German-American Fest (Lincoln Square)
Along with Mayfest(s) and Oktoberfest it's another excuse for Germans to drink outside.

19th: Guinness Oyster Fest (Damen and Roscoe)
The festival season winds down and fall kicks off with oysters and Guinness because no one can drink Guinness in 100 degree heat.

25th-27th: Oktoberfest (Lincoln and Southport)
Music, beer, and food-all of German variety. The last street fest for now until it's indoor drinking season.
